Why Facial Treatments In A Physiatrists office?

At PM&R Associates we do Regenerative Medicine. Regenerative Medicine is the use of substances, usually from the patient’s own body, to stimulate the patient’s body to repair itself. One of the most common substances used is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). We use PRP to treat arthritis of both large and small joints, inflammation of tendons and ligaments, and even spinal pain due to facet joint arthritis and degenerative disc disease. It is a short jump to use the same medicine to help cause healing in a patients face. Because we have such an extensive history in the use of PRP, we bring a wealth of experience to the treatment table.

Because we have the equipment to do stem cell therapy, we can produce the Platelet Rich Plasma at a cost well below what is usually charged. We do not need to buy additional centrifuges or expensive oneuse kits. This allows us to offer Microneedling Facial Treatments at a cost below what is well below what is charged elsewhere. We use real PRP from the patients body, not some off-the-shelf generic “serum”.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP is blood plasma with concentrated platelets. The concentrated platelets found in PRP contain huge reservoirs of bioactive proteins, including growth factors that are vital to initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration.

How does PRP therapy work?

To prepare PRP, a small amount of blood is taken from the patient. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge which concentrates the platelets. When injected into damaged tissues, PRP stimulates a mild inflammation that triggers the tissues to heal. In this case the “injection” is done by a small hand device that contains tiny micro-needles that repeatedly punctures the skin creating tiny channels on the skin. PRP is used during and immediately after the procedure. Numbing cream is used before the procedure.

What can PRP microneedling treat?

PRP microneedling is ideal for the treatment of acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, wrinkles and fine lines, hyper-pigmentation, lax skin, sun damage, large pores and uneven skin texture. It can be performed on either the face or body and is suitable for all skins types and color.

What can I expect?

After the treatment, your skin will be slightly pink and feel slightly sunburned . For most people the skin will completely recover in 24-72 hours Your body’s collagen production usually takes about 4-8 weeks, and you will continue to see improvement over this time. The best results are obtained with three sessions about a month apart. After that, you can get repeat treatments as needed.
